TAKE A ‘SAFE’ LOAD OFF WITH TACHODISC

May 2010

To ensure drivers understand their legal obligations in relation to the safe loading of vehicles, Tachodisc has created a new Driver CPC course entitled “Safe and secure loading principals and vehicle defect checking”.

Launched this month, the new 7-hour JAUPT approved course will update drivers on how to effectively secure loads and demonstrate the different types of packaging and securing equipment available.  Drivers will also be given instruction on what is required in respect of daily walk round vehicle safety checks and defect reporting procedures.

“Together with operators, drivers need to become more vigilant and responsible,” says Karen Crispe, Tachodisc’s Director. “The penalties and consequences of non-compliance with the regulations concerning the safe and secure loading of vehicles – and to the general public – can range from the inconvenient to the very serious and sometimes, to the catastrophic.  Drivers also now face being personally penalised under the new Graduated Fixed Penalty scheme, and can even be prosecuted with vehicles prohibited.  At worst, the unsafe loading of vehicles can cause serious injury or fatal accidents.”

Tachodisc has designed the new Driver CPC course so that drivers have an understanding of how to manage their loads safely and securely. This, in turn, should result in a safer working environment with fewer accidents and fewer penalties.  “Implementing more effective ‘best practice’ vehicle maintenance systems will lead to greater protection of both the driver’s vocational licence and the status of the operator licence,” added Karen.

All the dates for the ‘Safe Loading’ courses are now live at www.tachodisc.co.uk, with the first taking place this month at Tachodisc’s JAUPT accredited training centre in Warrington.

“Driver CPC provides drivers the opportunity to widen and strengthen their knowledge. At Tachodisc we want to make sure operators take full advantage of this training requirement by offering driver courses that can provide real business benefit.  The common concern for all operators is compliance, and for these reasons we have created a portfolio of courses that address this training need.  From digital tachographs and legislation to the new safe loading module, they all focus on key compliance issues related to the O Licence.  Through formalised training we can make drivers more compliant and help them run their vehicles more safely and efficiently,” concluded Karen.

Tachodisc is a JAUPT accredited training centre for Driver CPC and offers a range of approved open courses from its Warrington training school.  These include 7-hour courses on Drivers’ Hours and Tachograph Regulations, Digital Tachographs, Tachograph Records and Working Time Requirements, Defect Reporting, Safe Loading, Economical Driving, and Driver Safety Controls and Systems, Accident Prevention, Vehicle Fire Management and Driver/Customer Relations, plus Disability Awareness for PCV. All of these courses can also be held at operators’ premises.
