Driver CPC

Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) is a new Initial Qualification for drivers entering the lorry and bus industries which they must complete in order to drive professionally. All professional / vocational bus, coach and lorry drivers must undertake periodic training in order to maintain their Driver CPC.

What is periodic training?

  • Every professional driver has to undertake 35 hours of training during each 5 year period, in order to maintain the driver CPC.
  • Best practice to maximise efficient implementation of driver CPC requirements would be to provide 7 hours training per year.
  • Each module has to involve 7 hours of trainer contact in a 24 hour period.
  • Each training course has to be approved and carried out at an approved centre by approved trainers.
  • There is no pass or fail requirement.
  • A certificate of attendance is issued at the end of each completed 7 hour module.
  • Once 35 hours of training is achieved a DQC (driver qualification card) is issued by the DVLA.
