Driver CPC

Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) is an Initial Qualification for drivers entering the lorry and bus industries which they must complete in order to drive professionally. All professional / vocational bus, coach and lorry drivers must undertake periodic training in order to maintain their Driver CPC.

What is periodic training?

  • Every professional driver has to undertake 35 hours of training during each 5 year period, in order to maintain the driver CPC.
  • Best practice to maximise efficient implementation of driver CPC requirements would be to provide 7 hours training per year.
  • Each module has to involve 7 hours of trainer contact in a 24 hour period.
  • Each training course has to be approved and carried out at an approved centre by approved trainers.
  • There is no pass or fail requirement.
  • A certificate of attendance is issued at the end of each completed 7 hour module.
  • Once 35 hours of training is achieved a DQC (driver qualification card) is issued by the DVLA.
