Digital Partnership Builds Success

When one of the UK’s fastest growing national builders merchants started preparing for the mandatory implementation of digital tachographs, they knew that the partnerships they chose could dramatically affect the ease of transition.

Buildbase awarded the contract to leading tachograph experts, Tachodisc, who have provided the company with their innovative Smartanalysis bureau service, advice on training, and a range of downloading equipment.

“Tachodisc provide their Smartanalysis bureau service for all 100+ of our depots, and analyse both Drivers’ Hours Law and Working Time for us” Martyn Spackman Assistant Transport Manager for Buildbase explained. “We receive bespoke reports which highlight all of the information we need, including average start times. We train our people in-house, but the Smartanalysis service means that Tachodisc is a back-up solution for us too, because they can pin-point and help us correct any weak areas, problems, or issues.”

The company was chosen by Buildbase because of their early work in familiarising the industry with digital tachograph requirements, prior to the May 1st mandatory date. “They really were one of the few providers who had adapted to the working time and digital tachograph changes when we were looking for support, and despite the fact that we’ve thrown a huge amount of work at them, they have coped brilliantly” Martyn explained.

With a challenging role which concentrates on the introduction of digital tachographs and training for all 100+ branches, including legal requirements and operating guidance, Martyn was eager to secure the support of a knowledgeable industry leader. Despite the fact that a low percentage of their fleet is digital at the moment, Buildbase has a new truck introduction planned fortnightly, however they are still finding that operating a mixed fleet is easier and more painless than they had anticipated; a fact which they put down to their excellent working relationship with Tachodisc.
